EDUCATION FOR A GLOBAL FUTURE

Teaching students to be globally competent is to empower them to recognize the cultural, social, and economic contract that exists between nations, to appreciate that nobody exists in a vacuum and that we all affect each other's well being locally, nationally, and globally. As educators who embrace the power of Global Education we challenge ourselves to ask big questions like:

How can we prepare our youth well for the changing demands of living in a globally connected world? How can we work

deliberately and respectfully to expand opportunities for global and intercultural understanding for all children? In what ways can we leverage our capacity to reach less well-served children and youth? We see global thinking as the capacity to understand ourselves as well as people living in contexts different to our own; to make sense of the global issues of our times and take action toward societal well-being and sustainability; and to do so effectively and ethically in today’s digital landscapes.

Global competence are the skills, habits, and dispositions students need to build a future where all members of society are cared for and have the opportunity to reach their full potential. This means, that in a very real sense, all educators are already global educators. Broadly speaking, the skills of global education can be broken up into four domains - each of which represents a series of skills kids can master to become true global citizens.

The Sustainable Development Goals are the blueprint to achieve a better and more sustainable future for all. They address the global challenges we face, including those related to poverty, inequality, climate change, environmental degradation, peace and justice.

17 GOALS TO TRANSFORM OUR WORLD

The Sustainable Development Goals are a call for action by all countries – poor, rich and middle-income – to promote prosperity while protecting the planet. They recognize that ending poverty must go hand-in-hand with strategies that build economic growth and address a range of social needs including education, health, social protection, and job opportunities, while tackling climate change and environmental protection.
